We in the U.S. civil society community watched with shock and sadness at the events that unfolded in the Brazilian capital on January 8, 2023. The images brought back still fresh memories from January 6, 2021 in Washington, DC.

We write to express our solidarity with those public servants who return to ransacked buildings, those who will be tasked with cleaning up the mess and picking up the pieces — both literally and metaphorically.
